Legal weed proponents look to Congress after voters in N.J., other states approve ballot questions

The success of legalizing weed in ballot questions last week in New Jersey and elsewhere has buoyed the hopes of supporters of legal cannabis that Congress will finally take action.

“The victories in Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, and South Dakota mean that there will be eight more senators and 23 more representatives being elected from states that have legalized, thus dramatically increasing the amount of pressure on the Congress to pass a bill to end federal marijuana prohibition and criminalization,” said Justin Strekal, political director for NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

A Unidade de Pesquisa em álcool e Drogas (UNIAD) foi fundada em 1994 pelo Prof. Dr. Ronaldo Laranjeira e John Dunn, recém-chegados da Inglaterra. A criação contou, na época, com o apoio do Departamento de Psiquiatria da UNIFESP. Inicialmente (1994-1996) funcionou dentro do Complexo Hospital São Paulo, com o objetivo de atender funcionários dependentes.
